EPF Passbook Balance Check

The UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) application was developed under the Digital India initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD). It allows Indian citizens to access various government services using a single platform.

It enables salaried individuals to view/download the EPF passbook, perform the EPF passbook balance check process online, file claims, link UAN with Aadhaar, and register complaints with ease. It also offers tools such as a retirement planning calculator that can come in handy. Generally, UMANG provides a hassle-free experience where citizens have end-to-end access to basic government services at one location.

The UMANG app provides a quick way to view your PF passbook at any time and from anywhere. It aims to ease EPF services for everyone. Here are some of the key advantages of using the app for PF balance check:

• Anytime Access: UMANG makes it easy to check the EPF balance and other related services 24/7 from anywhere.
• Register and track Grievance: You can register grievances related to your EPF account through the app, providing convenience for addressing any issues.
• eKYC Services: EPF member can enter their UAN number and get Know Your Customer (KYC) services like Aadhaar seeding.
• Pension Services: After the Aadhaar authentication, pensioners can update their Aadhaar to get all the pensioner's services. They can view their new passbook using a Pension Payment Order (PPO) number and also generate a Jeevan Praman certificate.
• General Services: EPF members can use the UMANG app to raise a claim request, obtain employer-related PF details, and check the status of a claim they have filed.
• Secure Platform: It employs some advanced security measures like MPINs and OTPs to safeguard your privacy and data.
• Downloadable Passbook: For EPF passbook balance check, the UMANG app Provides users the convenience of downloading a PDF copy of their PF passbook for official use or future reference.
• User-friendly interface: This app prioritises simplicity, ensuring that every user can navigate the app. You can use the app in 13 languages as per your preferences.

The EPF passbook can be downloaded quite easily using the UMANG application and only requires a few easy steps:

Step 1: Download the UMANG application from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store on your mobile. Register on the app using a mobile number, MeriPehchan, or Digilocker. An OTP will be sent for verification.

Step 2: After registering on the platform, use the search bar for “EPFO” or click on ‘All Services’, next click on “Social Security and Pensioners” button to find the ‘EPFO’ tile, as shown below:

Step 3: After tapping the EPFO tile shown above, you can view the various EPFO services available through the UMANG App, as shown below:

Step 4: When you tap on the ‘View Passbook’ option, the below page will be displayed and you will be required to provide your EPFO UAN (Universal Account Number), as shown below. Subsequently, if required, provide the OTP received on your phone registered with EPFO to log in and view your passbook, as shown below:

Step 5: Once you are logged in, you can view the passbook of different accounts linked to your UAN as shown below:

Step 6: On the list of accounts shown above, you can click on any of the individual passbooks to view the individual EPF account balance. This view will also contain detailed records of deposits, interest credit, withdrawals, etc. as shown below:

Note: While the UMANG App lists all your EPF accounts, do keep in mind that EPF account balances cannot be viewed on the UMANG App if your EPF account is held with an exempt establishment such as a privately held EPF trust. The updated list of exempt establishments is available on the official EPFO website.

Here are a few things to keep in mind while initiating a PF balance check process on the UMANG app:

• UAN Activation: Ensure your UAN is activated and connected to Aadhaar and your mobile number.
• Correct Mobile Number: Use the number registered with your UAN for OTP verification. An incorrect mobile number can lead to an error message.
• Right Member ID: Choose the correct member ID so you can download the right passbook and not face any issues in the process of the EPF passbook balance check.
